My name Hail Stawi. And I am 30 years old. I am proud Israeli Druse and I live in Maghar, a Druse village in the north. I just had my first child, a baby girl, with my wife, Erin. My parents and three brothers could not be more excited to be grandparents and uncles to our three-week old! After finishing my military service, I decided to continue my commitment to the country I love, and I enlisted in the permanent service with the Border Police. I am now a First Sergeant.
On July 14, 2017, I was stationed near the Lion’s Gate in the Old City when the smell of gunfire ripped through the sounds of morning prayers from the many faiths gathered at this holy site. We were ambushed by three Palestinians who shot and killed a fellow officer and myself, before fleeing to the Temple Mount to take refuge in a mosque. Two of the terrorists were were shot and killed. The third terrorist, wounded in the gunfight, tried to stab another officer with a knife.
The terrorists hid in the holy compound overnight so they could emerge in the morning undetected. These terrorists – 29 year old Muhammad Ahmad Mahmoud Jabarin and 19 year olds Muhammad Ahmed Fadel Jabarin and Muhammad Hamed ‘Abd al-Latif Jabarin – were from Umm el-Fahm, also in northern Israel, where my widow must now raise our baby – who I will never know – without me. My name Hail Stawi. I am 30 years old. And I am one of #TheFallenFaces.Learn more about Hail Stawi here.
